Bluestone

Bluestone is a new jazz trio out of Tri Cities.

Bluestone plays a combination of classic modern jazz (e.g. Coltrane, Mingus, Horace Silver etc.), jazz and Latin standards (e.g. Satin Doll, All of Me, Blue Bossa, etc.), and rhythm and blues (Ray Charles, Jackie Wilson), as well as pop.

This band has two recent San Francisco transplants who are both well entrenched in the California jazz scene.

John Farey Piano / Vocals / Trombone
John Farey was born and raised in the Bay Area and comes from a family of well known local musicians. He has been a fixture in the SF jazz/R&B scene for many years and has toured and recorded with artists including Van Morrison, Sly and the Family Stone, Pride and Joy, Zero, Robert Hunter, Huey Lewis, etc.
His blues trombone playing, soulful vocals, and gospel piano styles contribute to the group's R&B and jazz groove.
With a strong orchestral background John brings a sense of melody and rhythmic intensity to the band's sound.
He has recorded extensively including his solo album "Lost at Sea".
John has performed in Europe playing both jazz and chamber music.

Greg Miner
Tenor and Alto Saxophone / Flute / Harmonica / Vocals
Greg was born in 1960 in the San Francisco Bay area. At age nine he started his musical journey playing saxophone and then began the study of instrument repair at fourteen. Greg's high school and college years were filled with musical studies in theory, harmony, composition, improvisation, and technique. He was enriched by the private instruction of well known musician Matt Schon, performer, arranger, and composer. At twenty Greg became a professional musician and repair technician.

Greg has been playing sax and flute for over forty years. He has rare ability and talent with a very distinct style and tonality. Greg mastered his craft from years of study and performance. Among his many credits are three years recording and performing with Grammy award winner Weaver Copeland (of The Modernaires), two years as a staff musician at Small D.O.G. Records in Sonora, California, two years as a staff musician at Vertigo Records in Arnold, California, and numerous commercials for radio and television.

Bruce Kirton Bass Guitar
Bruce Kirton is one of the finest bass players in the entire Pacific Northwest. With his musical intuition, percussive technique, and solid swing feels, Bruce is the foundation of the band in terms of structure, melody, and dynamics. At home on the four, five, six string and fretless basses, he possesses the taste and drive that are the underpinnings of the group's sound.

Originally from England, Bruce has toured all over the world with top name artists and has done extensive studio work throughout his career.
